Indonesia holds a special place in my heart. I was born and raised in the Netherlands. My dad was Dutch, and my mom is Indonesian. She’s from a city called Solo and was given away to an orphanage right after she was born. The parents who adopted her a few weeks (maybe months) later were half Indonesian-English-Dutch, and they lived in Madiun, East Java until my mom was 5 years old. Then they moved to the Netherlands. My mom never searched for her biological parents, but we started to search for my Indonesian roots a little while ago. This search is still ongoing, and hopefully, we will be in a position to continue the search later this year. We’re not only interested in Indonesia because of my roots, but also because this country is a magical place with lots of different cultures and amazing nature. It has so much to see and do.
In big cities like Jakarta and Bali, you can see old things mixed with new stuff. There are cool temples to visit, like Borobudur and Prambanan. You can also go to busy markets and see people doing fun things in the streets. If you want to relax or have fun in the water, Indonesia has awesome beaches. Places like Bali, Lombok, and Raja Ampat have beautiful beaches and clear water for swimming and water sports. Yogyakarta I like very much. You can experience a proper Indonesian city without too many tourists. There are quite a few things to do and see, and the vibes are very different from anywhere else in Indonesia.
Indonesia’s culture is really interesting. People from different places have influenced it, so there are lots of colorful festivals and delicious food to try. You can also visit old temples and villages to learn about the country’s history and traditions. Whether you like exploring forests, finding waterfalls, or diving in the sea, Indonesia has something for you. Please do not limit yourself to only one island in Indonesia as there are over 17,000!

It’s a magical archipelago with a wealth of diverse cultures and stunning natural beauty. I just want to say that you’re going to have to go with an open mind and be ready for new things you’ve never done, seen, or tasted before. Cambodia is the underdog, I reckon. It has great cuisine and beautiful people. Bear in mind that when you stay in the touristy parts, like in most parts of South East Asian- touristy places, the ‘tuk-tuk’ drivers can be a bit pushy. They don’t represent the kindness of the people. Go prepared, stay polite, be open-minded, and you’ll have the best journey! Cambodia is a wonderful country in the center of Southeast Asia known for its history, culture, and beautiful scenery. Luang Prabang is my favorite place as it is right in the middle of the mountains, and the center has great “traveler” vibes. A beautiful country located in the West of Southeast Asia, known for its rich culture, ancient heritage, and stunning landscapes. While Myanmar offers a wealth of experiences waiting to be discovered, it’s essential to consider the current situation and travel advice before planning your visit. I feel fortunate I visited Myanmar on a three-week journey in 2013, And I returned again to create videos to publish on YouTube in 2024. In cities like Yangon and Mandalay, you’ll encounter a fascinating blend of ancient traditions and modern developments, but on my last visit I focused more on exposing what the situation is like.
However, due to recent political unrest and ongoing civil unrest in certain areas, it’s crucial to stay informed about the current situation and exercise caution when traveling in Myanmar. Beyond the urban centers, Myanmar boasts breathtaking natural beauty. While the country’s landscapes are awe-inspiring, it’s essential to research and adhere to any travel advisories and restrictions in place, especially in regions affected by conflict or instability. Myanmar’s cultural heritage is as diverse as its landscapes, with influences from Buddhism, Hinduism, and indigenous traditions. While exploring the country’s cultural treasures, it’s essential to respect local customs and traditions and engage with local communities respectfully. Before traveling to Myanmar, it’s advisable to check for any travel advisories issued by your government and consult reputable sources for the latest information on safety and security. Additionally, consider registering with your embassy or consulate upon arrival and staying in touch with local authorities for updates during your visit. While Myanmar offers a unique and unforgettable travel experience, it’s essential to prioritize safety and stay informed about the current situation to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.
